    Cyanine 5.5应用非常广泛,不仅可用于生物大分子的标记,还被用作一些小分子的衍生化试剂。maleimide(马来酰亚胺)常被用来标记巯基,Cyanine5.5 Maleimide与其他标记巯基的荧光试剂(如FITC,TRITC等)相比,它反应选择更高。Cyanine5.5 Maleimide是近红外染料,除了用于标记多肽,蛋白和寡核苷酸氨基外,也常被用于小动物活体成像。因为它避开了很多物质都有吸收的可见光区,吸收的近红外光在生物组织中的穿透深度较大,而激发的荧光受生物组织本底的影响较少,所以能够在深层组织产生信号。尤其是在700~900 nm的范围中,水和血红蛋白的吸收都很少,近红外光可以深入组织内部多达15 cm。同时,这类染料还拥有紫外光区染料和同位素标记无法具备的生物安全性。Cyanine 5.5 (cy 5.5)是常用的近红外荧光染料。
    cyanine 5.5 Maleimide需要共溶剂,但由于其疏水性比Cyanine7弱,应用更为广泛。陕西NG体育生物提供三乙胺盐酸盐(triethylammonium salts)形式的cyanine 5.5 Maleimide,较其他公司钾盐形式的cyanine 5.5 Maleimide更易容,在光学性质,反应性相同的情况下,拥有更好的溶解性。
    cyanine 5.5 Maleimide(马来酰亚胺)广谱学性质与Alexa Fluor 680 Maleimide和DyLight 680 Maleimide类似,可作为其替代物。
